The Scheduling Pane is the area where all the scheduling work is done. It provides the ability for the scheduler to drag and allocate Resources to Jobs, or, depending on the Scheduling View, allocate Jobs to Resources.
The Scheduling Pane is separated into two areas:
- Allocation Area: A list of either the available Jobs, or available Resources based on the filters that have been applied and the Scheduling View selected.
- Scheduling Area: Provides the time scale and allows the scheduler to draw the scheduling bars.
Allocation Area
The Allocation Area contains the listing of available Jobs or Resources against which the options in the Resource Pane can be assigned. The scheduling process includes two steps:
- A value in the Resource Pane is assigned to an option in the Allocation Pane (e.g. if you have your Scheduling View set to By Task, a Resource needs to be assigned to the Job). The value from the Resource Pane can be assigned to the Allocation Area through a simple drag and drop process. The scheduler can select an option in the Resource Pane and drag the value across to the Allocation Area. When selecting a value, the user can either select an individual option, or select the group header and drag the entire group across.
- Once values from the Resource Pane have been added to the Allocation Area, scheduling can be applied against them.
Scheduling Area
The Scheduling Area is where all the scheduling is done. The system is designed around a GANTT chart with columns for the scheduling times and rows for the scheduled time allocation.
The user can choose from the following preset time intervals for the scheduling times under View > Time Mode in the Scheduling Pane menu:
- 15 mins
- hour
- days
- weeks
- months
Each of these options will result in the columns displayed on the GANTT chart representing a different time scale.
The system will gray out the days and hours that have not been marked within the default company schedule as working days and hours. The scheduler can still schedule time within these periods; however, unless the individual resource has a an exception to their work schedule, the system will not calculate any working hours for the scheduled time entry.
