The job status options are used to indicate where a job is at in its lifecycle. This provides the company with the ability to see upcoming work and what is happing with the jobs on hand. Job statuses also control certain attributes associated to a job.
- Job status controls whether a job is editable. The status can move the job into a read only state, so users cannot make changes to the job or record transactions against it. This is ideal for situations where the job is complete and no further processing should be carried out.
- Similarly, the Quote tab of the subjob can be moved to a read only state that prevents users from changing the quote details. Other transactions, such as timesheets, can still be recorded against the job but no changes can be made to the quote itself. This is ideal for preventing changes from being made to a quote once the customer has accepted it and signed off.
- The job status controls whether a job is available for scheduling. This relates to the job scheduling within the core Eralis Job add-on. If a job is not in a status that can be scheduled, it will not appear on the scheduling list.
- Job status also controls if a job is available to be processed in the variance manager related to Eralis Rent. The variance manager compares what has been dispatched to a job against what has been returned to identify any discrepancies. It also allows the user to resolve the discrepancies in different ways. This is a process that should only be run when a job has been completed, and as such the status controls which jobs are available to be processed through the variance manager.
Due to the control that the status has on the job, a specific user authorization is available to limit which users can change the status of a job. This is particularly important for the controls on the editability of the job and the quote. Job statuses are also used as filters on the My Jobs form, and the Bulk Stock Check and Bulk Processing wizards.
In the setup form, there is an Active column which allows a value to be activated or deactivated. It does not control the job or subjob. If the value is made inactive and there are jobs or subjobs that have the value assigned, Eralis Job will provide a warning. However, it will still allow you to deactivate the value. In such a case, the value will remain available on the jobs that it is currently assigned to.
The options will also be displayed in the order that they were entered. The is relevant when they are displayed in list boxes or combo-boxes. The move-up and move-down buttons on the right-hand side of the form allow the company to control which order they are displayed in.
